He wanted to give gifts big amount for the epic. When the great poet Firdausi to write 'Shahanama' in honour of Mahmood, the Sultan promise him to give a piece of gold for each verse. But when the epic was finished, it was found to contain sixty thousand verses, and the sultan now offered Firdausi only sixty thousand pieces of silver. Thus the poet refuse to take and left the court. Afterwords, the sultan repenting sent the gold pieces. His messengers arrived too late. As they reached the poet's house, they met his dead body being carried out for burial. This very sad news for Sultan. He heard the news and burst into tears. Sultan treated that I am responsible for his death. If I paid him properly he would not hurt.
